Performance: One of the biggest updates for this model year is the new 2026 Mazda CX-5 engine. This SUV is now powered by a 187-hp 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G four-cylinder engine that delivers 186 lb-ft of torque. i-Activ AWD (all-wheel drive) is standard across all trim levels, and the engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Exterior: The new Mazda CX-5 sports a bolder exterior design that ties it more into the Mazda CX-70 and Mazda CX-90, creating a more streamlined lineup look.
Interior: The 2026 Mazda CX-5 interior offers more space in the cargo area. There’s also more room in the second row, providing a more comfortable ride for passengers.
Technology: This Mazda SUV features an impressive touchscreen with Google built in. At 5.6 inches, it’s the brand’s largest touchscreen available.
Mazda CX-5 Interior: The Mazda CX-5 seats up to five on cloth seats. Higher trims add sophistication with leatherette or leather seating and heated front seats with 3-level adjustment. Some trim levels also offer ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel, so you’re cozy or cool throughout every season.
The 2026 Mazda CX-5 provides 40.2 inches or 39.1 inches of rear headroom, depending on whether you opt for a moonroof. There’s 39.9 inches of rear legroom. Behind the second row, you now get 33.7 cubic feet of cargo space. Behind the first row is a maximum of 66.5 cubic feet.
Mazda CX-5 Safety: Consumer Reports recently named Mazda the first-ever safest new car brand, and the Mazda CX-5 lives up to that title. The CX-5 has earned several Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards. It’s also earned several National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 5-star overall safety ratings, including for the 2026 model year.
